The E30 3 – Series

As a true enthusiast’s vehicle, the E30 had both the sporty character of the 2002 and the sharp design lines of the E21. The E30 was a blend of the best of BMW’s heritage. The second generation 3 Series provided the most superbly focused road feel yet, and with predictable and balanced suspension and gutsy engines, it became a sensation. When the E30 hit its stride, it accounted for 40% of BMWs auto sales worldwide. In addition to being remarkably popular and fun to drive, the E30 3 series has also helped maintain BMW’s racing heritage. The M version of the 3 series, the M3, debuted in the US  in 1988, and was met with acclaim from the entire automotive community. It took the E30’s already impressive race pedigree to new heights, and to this day is one of the best-regarded road cars in history. The M3 drew on BMWs knack for turning high technology into the a work of art, and featured a new suspension design and a 2.3L 4-cylinder motor dubbed the S14. This motor was a greatly enhanced version of the M10, with dual overhead cams and four individual throttle bodies. All of this advanced technology made for a visceral driving experience that is still regarded today as one of the world’s best.
