The BMW E30 M3
The M version of the 3 series, the M3, debuted in the US in 1988, and was met with acclaim from the entire automotive community. It took the E30’s already impressive race pedigree to new heights, and to this day is one of the best-regarded road cars in history. The M3 drew on BMWs knack for taking high technology into the realm of art, and featured a new suspension design and a 2.3L 4-cylinder motor dubbed the S14. It was a greatly enhanced version of the M10 with dual overhead cams and four individual throttle bodies. All of this advanced technology made for a visceral driving experience that is still regarded today as one of the world’s best.
